or most people, employer provided or subsidized health insurance is the only economical option. Unfortunately, if you have or develop a medical condition you are forced to remain with your current employer in order to maintain your coverage. Whenever possible, it is better to have your own health insurance because, as long as you maintain the coverage, no matter what conditions you develop, you cannot be cancelled or charged a higher premium than others in your age group.

Depending on the copays required by your employer and the options within your employee benefit package, it may be economical to opt out of your employer's coverage and buy your own health insurance.

You should investigate the benefits of a Health Savings Account. You are probably better off with a higher deductible plan. The saving in premiums can be substantial and, if you save the premium difference, you can pay the deductibles and still save money. If you are between jobs, we offer short-term medical insurance that will probably cost much less than your COBRA premiums.

Medical expenses and medical insurance premiums have skyrocketed. This is caused partly by government beauracracy and interference in medical treatment, and partly by patients' attitudes that cost control is not important as long as "the insurance company is paying for it."

Schubert Financial Associates can't make health care more affordable, but we can review your options and suggest the best plan for your situation.
